The 30X30 Strategic Plan
Out of a 150-mile trail network, where do you start?
The 30×30 Plan aligns public and private efforts around a shared strategy for funding, design, and implementation, focused on 10 priority trail projects. Rather than pursuing isolated investments, this approach brings together a diverse mix of trail types—urban streets, rail-to-trail corridors, and natural surface paths—into one coordinated portfolio. By doing so, it increases competitiveness for grants, attracts philanthropic support, and accelerates the pace of construction. Just as importantly, it establishes a foundational network—a framework that future trails can build from, ensuring long-term connectivity and continued growth across the system.
At its core, 30×30 is about impact. Trails create beautiful public spaces that enhance quality of life and drive economic development—but at a deeper level, they function as essential infrastructure. They support public health, expand transportation options, and ensure that children, seniors, and people without consistent access to a car can safely move through our community. They foster environmental stewardship, connect people to nature, and help build a stronger sense of place across the River Region.
While full construction of all 30 miles cannot be guaranteed—particularly as funding remains competitive—the plan defines a clear set of priorities and focuses early efforts on building meaningful connections between key destinations. By prioritizing connectivity at this stage, 30×30 ensures that each segment delivers immediate value while contributing to a larger, more complete network over time.
